Meduno

Historically famous for the 1864 Navarons patriotic uprising that fueled the Italian Risorgimento, the scattered municipality of Meduno in Pordenone channels this same defiant spirit into preserving its mountain culinary legacy. Here, within a restricted zone of just 12 municipalities, artisans craft Pitina IGP, a distinctive smoked meatball of game or sheep meat coated in cornmeal. Meduno's steep terrain also transitions into the gravelly plains that define the Friuli Grave DOC wine zone, which spans 93 municipalities. In total, this rugged alpine territory yields 16 protected food and wine denominations.
