Commessaggio

In the clay-rich lowlands of the Oglio River basin, historically linked to neighbouring Gazzuolo and San Martino dall'Argine, Commessaggio nurtures a highly specialized agricultural heritage. This small Mantuan enclave is one of only 3 municipalities authorized to produce the rare Sabbioneta IGT wines. The river-fed soils also foster Lambrusco Mantovano DOC and the sugary Melone Mantovano IGP. In total, Commessaggio boasts 15 protected denominations. Here, the alluvial plains and humid climate create a distinct terroir where viticulture and melon cultivation thrive hand-in-hand, far outpacing the town's modest size.
