Montecrestese

Clinging to the rugged slopes of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province, the scattered alpine hamlets of Montecrestese thrive in a steep landscape that directly shapes its mountain gastronomy. This fragmented territory hosts 17 protected denominations, led by the highly localized Valli Ossolane DOC. The alpine vineyards, carved into rocky terraces, yield characterful mountain wines, while the surrounding high pastures feed the dairy herds behind Ossolano DOP cheese. This unique topography, where settlement is dispersed across distinct elevations, ensures that viticulture and cheesemaking remain deeply adapted to the sharp microclimates of these northern Piedmont valleys.
