Carfizzi

Perched in the rugged hills of Calabria’s Crotone province, the quiet village of Carfizzi, home to a tiny population of just over 500 residents, nurtures a dense agricultural heritage. This small hilltop territory yields 15 protected denominations, shaped by a Mediterranean microclimate where maritime breezes meet steep inland elevations. Local vineyards feed the highly restricted Lipuda IGT, a wine shared with only seven other neighboring municipalities, alongside the classic Melissa DOC. These clay-rich soils also foster the prized Pecorino Crotonese DOP, proving that this isolated community remains an essential custodian of southern Italy’s authentic flavors.
