Vermentino di Sardegna DOC spans the entire island of Sardinia, encompassing 377 municipalities from Abbasanta to Aggius. Unlike more localized denominations, this expansive boundary requires strict quality guardrails: yields must not exceed 16.0 tonnes per hectare, and the grape-to-wine ratio is capped at 70 percent. Exceeding this limit up to 80 percent automatically demotes the wine to the IGT Isola dei Nuraghi designation. While standard vinification and bottling must occur on the island, this denomination uniquely permits the secondary fermentation of its Frizzante and Spumante styles to take place outside Sardinia by derogation, yielding sparkling variations characterized by a fine, fleeting foam.
