Recognised as a protected designation of origin since 2002, the Valle del Belice olive oil territory spans six specific municipalities in Sicily, including Campobello di Mazara and Castelvetrano. However, this designation stands apart from its active Sicilian neighbours due to a stark administrative reality: it currently registers zero verified producers. While neighbouring regions translate their PDO status into commercial bottles, this specific Sicilian territory remains a legally protected enclave without any certified commercial output, existing as a defined geographic origin on the agricultural map but lacking the physical producers to bring its certified extra virgin olive oil to the international market.
