Scavigna
Wine · PDO · 2 municipalities
Established in 1996, the Scavigna DOC spans just two Calabrian municipalities, Falerna and Nocera Terinese. This denomination distinguishes itself from its regional neighbors through a highly unusual white blend that permits up to 50% Traminer Aromatico alongside Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, and Riesling Italico—an unexpected combination for southern Italy. For the red and rosato styles, rules mandate a maximum yield of 9.0 tonnes per hectare. Regardless of color, all Scavigna wines share a mandatory release delay until January 1 of the year following harvest. Despite these detailed standards, the appellation currently records zero active verified producers.
