Established in 1999 across 25 municipalities in Calabria, including Agnana Calabra and Bianco, the Locride IGT is produced by 26 verified estates. What distinguishes this denomination from regional neighbors is its specialized Montonico passito style, made from Montonico bianco grapes. While standard Locride styles allow an 80 percent grape-to-wine yield, the passito style requires appassimento either on the vine or post-harvest, restricting the final wine yield to just 50 percent. This process ensures a concentrated minimum natural alcohol level of 14% volume, which must reach at least 15.00% total alcohol volume by the time of consumption.
