Collina del Milanese

Wine · PGI · 5 municipalities

Recognised in 1999, the Collina del Milanese IGT occupies a geologically unique enclave within the flat Po plain. Unlike the surrounding lowlands, this winegrowing zone is confined to a single isolated hill measuring seven kilometres by two kilometres with a 75-metre relief. Spanning five municipalities, including Graffignana, this distinct terroir yields wines with a maximum limit of 18.0 tonnes per hectare. While various Lombardy grapes are eligible, the local Verdea is the only variety explicitly designated for the sweet, golden passito style, which requires an 11% minimum alcohol level and a concentrated juice-to-wine yield of 50%.
