Carso
Wine · PDO · 12 municipalities
Established as a DOC in 1999, the Carso denomination spans twelve municipalities across the provinces of Trieste and Gorizia, including Doberdò del Lago-Doberdob. Reflecting its border heritage, the appellation uniquely permits bilingual Italian and Slovenian labeling. Unlike neighboring regions, Carso defines thirteen distinct single-grape tipologie alongside its red blend. While the base Carso Rosso requires at least 70% Terrano, the highly restricted 'Classico' designation is reserved exclusively for Terrano grapes harvested within the historically oldest delimited sub-zone. All varieties must adhere to a strict maximum yield of 9.0 tons per hectare.
